Rotations

Rotations

When entering a rotation, gradually apply brake pressure to avoid spinning the wing. Warning signs of entering too soon include excessive yaw movement and dimpling in the wing. To exit a rotation, pass the wing vertically under the exit window and use compensation brake to cancel the roll. Rapid exits require releasing the inside brake, adding the outside brake, and compensating for the roll past the exit window. Situational awareness is crucial throughout the maneuver.

Roll & Rotation regulation

Goal: To control rotations using both brake inputs
This is very useful in our paragliding journey as rotations, or the 360s, are something we use frequently during turns or thermaling practice.
By using both brakes when necessary, we can control the rotations more precisely. During my flights, I always control my wing using weight shift and both brakes. How much I use each brake depends on the situation.
Exercise 1:
  1. Enter the rotation using the inside brake.
  2. Control the rotation by adjusting the inside brake pressure to regulate the rotation speed.
  3. Exit with Natural Exit.
Exercise 2:
  1. Enter the rotation using the inside brake.
  2. Maintain a steady rotational speed.
  3. Apply the outside brake to slow down the rotations while keeping the inside brake constant.
  4. Release the outside brake to observe how the rotation restarts and gains momentum.
  5. Repeat the process several times.
  6. Rapid exit or natural exit.
Exercise 3:
  1. Enter the rotation using the inside brake.
  2. Control the rotation by alternating between inside and outside brake inputs.
  3. Observe the changes in speed and G-Forces.
  4. Smoothly exit and bleed out the energy.
